The thinking power and capacity of judgment which are now fully awakened in the growing 16/17 year boy and girl demand food for thought and an outlet for action in tasks which can be accomplished only by reason and logic. The relationship which an adolescent forms consciously and freely with his surroundings demands a constant contact with practical life with achievements of modern technique. The rich and versatile life of the adolescent needs to be satisfied by pondering over human and environmental problems, which will be introduced and discussed in the lessons, for every one sided judgment leads into a blind alley. To overcome these difficulties in the modern age with polarities of the surging life of feeling in the students and the excessive dependence on gadgets /internet, they will learn how to balance this, by using their head, heart and hands during the lessons.
The Boats & Engines lesson will integrate various aspects of boat building, internal combustion engines, art, math, games and will cover elements of math, two/four stroke internal combustion engines, star constellations/planetary bodies, use of various hand/electrical tools/GPS instruments and other technical equipment. The teachers will bring this understanding with imagination, enthusiasm and scientific reasoning to the students to enliven the learning process. They will also get an opportunity to understand the rich diversity of land and water formations in this area and interact with the locals to understand a different culture and way of life, both during the lesson at school, as well as during the field visit to the lake. To ensure they become active contributors to society, a visit to a local orphanage where one of the boats that they have built, will be donated for use by the children . This program will require the students and student teachers to fully participate in all the sessions, apply themselves and meet the deadlines for all the tasks set out .
